Obituary Edward "Bud" Lee Hornbeck Wulf-ASt Mortuary
Edward "Bud" Lee Hornbeck
February 28, 1929 - September 24, 2016
Edward "Bud" Lee Hornbeck, 87, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Via Christi St Francis in Wichita, KS. Services will be Saturday,
October 1, 2016; 11:00 am at Cheney First Assembly of God. Burial will be in Cheney Pioneer Cemetery. Reception will be at the Cheney Senior Center.
Edward was born in Chanute, KS and lived much of his youth in Hutchinson, KS. He married his wife, Katherine, on January 14th, 1950, in Coulter
Pennsylvania. He retired from Northern Natural Gas. During his retirement, Edward drove for Kansas Public Schools and assisted veterans with
transportation. He was known for being an avid motorcycle enthusiast as well as being a hunter.
Sisters Mary Wedekemper and Norma Jean Bird, brother James Hornbeck and son, Edward Joe, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Katherine;
Four children, Teresa Bonebright-Palmer of Hutchinson, Katherine Reed of Haysville, Sally Sooby (Mark) of Houston, TX, Deann Hornbeck of Cheney;
12 grandchildren, Christie Bessignano (Brian) of Denver, CO, Renee Mead (Jim) of Chicago, IL, Brian Bonebright of Hutchinson,
Tahnya Claypool (Todd Homicki) of Costa Mesa, CA, Taylor Andreas (Matt) of Lexington, KY, Travis Cooley of Haysville,
Tyler Sooby (Kelly) and Clayton Sooby (Felicia) of Houston, TX, Monica Haas (LT Andrew) of Pensacola, FL, Derek Sooby (Ellie) of Coppell, TX,
Mike Hornbeck and Cody Hornbeck of Denver, CO; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Thiele, Robert E., 78, retired U.S. Air Force Colonel and attorney, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2006. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday
at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 611 S. Erie. Preceded in death by his parents & sister Betty Sooby Byers. Survivors include his nephew & nieces,
John B. Sooby of Wichita, Stephanie Deer & Melissa McHugh both of Denver, CO; several great nieces & nephews and great great nephews. A memorial

Obituary for Carrol 'Kay' Stevens - The Kansan
Carrol "Kay" Stevens, 77, of Newton, died on Thursday (Nov. 3, 2011) at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita as the result
of an automobile accident on Oct. 28 in Newton at the corner of Broadway and Columbus.
She was born on April 15, 1934, in Newton, the daughter of Clayton Henry and Neva Irene Porter Sooby. She attended schools in Newton and Elbing before
the family moved to Venezuela in the late 1940s. Kay returned to the United States and graduated from high school in Ellsworth in 1951. She later attended
Wesley School of Nursing in Wichita.
Kay married Buster Claude Stevens on May 28, 1953, in Newton. They moved to Denver in 1959. There, she did home health care and worked several years as a
cashier at Kings Sooper Grocery. Kay and Buster returned to Newton 14 years ago.
Kay was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. A very generous lady who loved helping others, she loved spending time with her family, roaming
the grocery stores and time with her sister doing folk art painting. Kay enjoyed the sounds at the casino and watching "The Young and the Restless."
Survivors include two daughters, April Starr Long of Martinsville, Ind., and Misty Dawn Gilliam and husband, Richard of Palisade, Neb.; brother,
Donald Sooby and his wife, Carol, of Newton; sisters, Judy Gronau and her husband, Cline, of Newton, and Beverly Ralph of San Marcos, Texas;
10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Buster on Dec. 24, 2006; son, Sidney Vaughn Stevens; and daughter, Carolyn Irene Vigil.
Friends may call from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton, where the family will receive friends between 2 and 4 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
A memorial has been established with the Newton Homeless Shelter and American Lung Association. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial
Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.

Marilyn D. Taylor, was born Nov. 23, 1924 in Newton, Kansas to John and Fern Sooby. She died March 20, 2013 in Wichita, Ks. at the age of 88.
She was retired from Taylor and Taylor Company. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Shelly Chism; and brothers, John and
Larry. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband of 43 years, Warden; son, Greg Chism; two daughters, Cristy (Dick) Robertson and
Vicki (Jack) Fisher; 10 Grandchildren and 10 Great-grandchildren.

Mark A. Sooby serves as an Investment Banking Executive of Merrill Lynch Petrie Divestiture Advisors. Mr. Sooby joined
Merrill Lynch Petrie in August 1999. Mr. Sooby has extensive corporate and banking experience in the energy business.
He was extensively involved in the Texaco divestiture program, where he spearheaded the successful effort to sell certain
Louisiana producing assets. Mr. Sooby has wealth of experience across the energy value chain from both an operational and
financial perspective. He has been involved in merger and acquisition assignments as well as corporate finance advisories
in the oil and gas upstream, gas mid-stream and power sectors. In addition, he has developed a wide range of energy industry
contacts in both the domestic and international arenas. He served as Acquisitions Manager for ARCO International Oil and Gas
Company based in Plano, Texas and later served as Business Development Manager for ARCO Eurasia and Africa Ltd. based in London,
where he was responsible for developing commercial venture proposals for government and private energy ventures. He has traveled
extensively in Africa, the Middle East and Asia and is knowledgeable about many energy projects and prospects in those regions.
Before joining ARCO, Mr. Sooby spent five years at NationsBank in the Energy Finance and Capital Markets divisions as well as
eight years at Pacific Enterprises Oil Company with responsibility for acquisitions and joint ventures. He began his career in
energy as an engineer in the Nuclear Department for Kansas Gas & Electric Company. He serves as Director of BofA Merrill Lynch
Petrie Divestiture Advisors (formerly Merrill Lynch Petrie Divestiture Advisors). Mr. Sooby is a Registered Professional Engineer
and a member of both the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Mr. Sooby holds a
Bachelor of Science degree (honors) in Nuclear Engineering from Kansas State University in 1977. He subsequently received his M.B.A.
from Wichita State University.
